DEBUT OF OUR NEW ETHIOPIA WEBSITE!!

August marks the start of our website for Adoption Ministry of YWAM - Ethiopia! Here you'll find a lot of great information and pictures detailing both international adoptions from Ethiopia and sponsorship of children and widows. Please take some time to browse the many pages of the website and find out about all of the wonderful things God is doing!

There are currently 29 children being readied to adopt a family in the U.S. - would you like to have a little boy or girl adopt you?

We have several widows and children (none of whom are adoptable at this time) who are in our sponsorship program and who can be supported for only $30 a month. One of these precious little ones is Nigusu Derege, a 5 year old girl who is living with HIV/AIDS. Her parents died of AIDS and when her grandmother wouldn't care for her because she feared the disease, she became very weak. After receiving medical help, she is now doing very well.  She loves to sing and her favorite thing to eat is meat!

If you would be interested in committing to pray for one of the many children waiting to be adopted, please contact us at the email address below.  We truly want each waiting child to be covered in prayer!

Please visit our website to find out how you can help or to get information about our adoption or sponsorship programs. We'd be happy to talk to you as well! You can call our Adoption Ministry Ethiopia office at 888-968-2367 or email us at support@ywamethiopia.com

A
group of 18 teens and adults just returned from a two week trip to Ethiopia where they visited several cities and towns in which Adoption Ministry of YWAM - Ethiopia is working.  The team, lead by Mark and Liane Wolbert, spent many months in preparation for the trip.  They met regularly to pray, learn about the culture of Ethiopia and of the work Adoption Ministry Ethiopia is doing there.

On June 23rd, they arrived in the capital city of Addis Ababa and met our in-country representative, Abebe Getachew.  Abebe and his family joined the team as they ministered to hundreds of children via Bible school lessons, songs, games and meals.  Dr. Tom Siler brought medical equipment for exams and medicine to treat a variety of problems found in the orphans and street children.

In Addis Ababa, the team spent time working at YWAM's Children's Home where they made lasting friendships with the children living there who have been rescued from the streets by Abdissa Tadessa, who is the director of the ministry there.

Also in Addis, time was spent at The Forsaken Children drop-in center where street kids are receiving food, education and discipleship.  The team helped build a shelter in the courtyard and had a Bible school for three days.  The desperately needy children responded with great affection and enthusiasm to all the love and attention showered on them.  It's hard to tell who was blessed more - the Ethiopian kids or the American visitors!

During the second week, the team traveled south to the city of Adama (also called Nazaret) where Adoption Ministry Ethiopia has helped to establish an Orphan and Widows' Home.  Here they played games, led songs and taught bible lessons to the many orphans there, both at the orphanage and from the community.  They also went to the village of Tede to do work in the community with the many hungry and desperate children and widows there.

Everywhere they went, God provided opportunities to touch the lives of the poorest of the poor and meet the physical and spiritual needs of Ethiopia's widows, orphans and children living on the streets.  Every member of the team was blessed to have spent time with so many of God's neediest children.  And they had a wonderful time together as well!

The Forgotten Children
By Dr. Tom Siler

At the end of June 2008, my wife and I and three kids packed up and joined a team of thirteen others heading to Ethiopia.

At first, I did not believe it when I was told there were hundreds of thousands of children on the streets of Addis.  After driving around the capital for a week, I believed it!  There were children begging everywhere, just trying to survive each day.  One of the ministries we visited worked with street kids, providing a safe place for them to come and get a filling meal, hear about Jesus and get some guidance and adult contact.  Most of the children were 6 through 12 years old.  Imagine!  Little children forging their way at such a young age.  Their condition birthed a deep sadness in me.  I am a doctor and my medical exams of these children revealed most were under weight for their age and about 75% of them had some type of intestinal parasite.

This trip was an eye-opener for me and my family and the first step in a direction that provides links between the body of Christ here in the U.S. and some of our brothers in Ethiopia.  Those of us who went there and held the children, played with the children and shared Jesus’ love with them cannot forget this generation of Ethiopian children who have lost parents and struggle for existence.
